Light on the table, nowhere else

The room has one window and it faces a wall. Rather than fight that with a bright ceiling, the whole scheme accepts the dark: unlit walls, a low pendant over every table, and nothing reflective above eye level. Twenty-six people can eat in near-blackness and still read a menu, because the only lit surface in the room is the one they are looking at.

The bar takes the only wall that could carry weight.

A dining room does not need to be bright. It needs to be legible at the table and forgiving everywhere else.

One pendant per table, hung low enough to light the cloth and nothing above it. At head height it would have lit the room; at this height it lights the meal.
